Saying goodbye is never easy and it’s only made worse when it’s unexpected. I’ve had our cat
Pixel for going on 8 years now and we’ve had Beta for 5, but in the next week, we’re going to
have to part ways. Noah has become allergic to the cats and it goes straight to his lungs.
He’s in bed right now hacking and weezing up a storm!
Last Tuesday he and I were playing on our bed and when we got done, he could hardly say even a
single word without having to take a huge, very labored breath. We got him out of the house and
had him at the allergist the next day where the word came down, very allergic to cats. The poor
guy just can’t catch a break! Jessi and I spent the next few days trying to find a good home for
our two little girls, but without any luck. Evidently, June and July are when most kittens are
born and all of the shelters/families/friends were full up on cats.
We were getting desperate and started to sweeten the deal. If you take our cats, we’ll give you
$250… $500… $1000! Still no takers. Time to widen the net.
We found a website that listed every no-kill shelter and foster home in the state and started
calling them from A-Z. We eventually came across one in Bowling Green that thought that they
might have a space in a few days, but no promises. A few days came and it looks like we got
lucky. A wonderful woman named April is taking them in and going to take care of them while
they wait to be adopted. Safe, sound and together!
Our pets are family and it kills us to have to let them go. We’ve cried, we’ve lost sleep but
it’s something that has to happen. We worry about Noah, he sounds pretty awful when a fit comes
on him, and we know that the cats are going to be safe and loved. So, goodbye Pixel and Beta. We
loved you like our children and will miss you more then words could ever say.
Until we meet again.
