All I want for Christmas…

Posted under Jessi

A majority of Jessi’s favorite charities are food related (mmmmmm doughnuts):

Food Anaphylaxis & Allergy Network:  Supports us in navigating a peanut-free world for our little coconut.  Click click on the “Donate Now” page.

America Diabetes Association: Helps Jason with counting carbs.  Click on “Donate Now”.

Heifer Project International: Provides animals and crops around the world to families who commit to give part of their results to another family ::repeat::  You can buy an entire animal or a share of one (you don’t need to tell me which body part you had in mind ;) ) by clicking on “Give”.

Other worthy causes that feed my soul are:

  • Children’s Hope International is the adoption agency that we’re going through (26 months to go!) and they do wonderful humanitarian aid projects in China and throughout the world.  You can pick a project or donate to a general fund.
  • United Church of Christ which has many great options on their UCC Ministries page.

Not only will I get exactly what I want but you don’t have to brave the stores for me!

As for Noah, here are a few hints… pirates, trains, pirates, Batman, or pirates.  He wears 4T pants (adjustable waistband mandatory), 5T shirts, and anything that’s one piece is XS from the boys section – that’s right – our 3-year-old has outgrown sleepers in the toddler section.

Christmas Gift ideas

Posted under Jason

For Christmas, Jessi and I are changing things up and would just like donations to be made to charities in our name instead of giving us gifts. Noah is exempt of course. Here are my requests, Jessi will post hers shortly.

Escape Pod,  This is an online science fiction podcast I listen to a lot. They work by purchasing stories from authors and then releasing them into the public domain. You can donate to them by clicking on the gold paypal link.

Son Light ministries, I’m working with a guy via this organization to sponsor some children in Haiti with an education project that gets them on the road to geekdom.  It’s 35 bucks per kid and you can just send a check to Sonlight Ministries, PO Box 8031 Evansville, IN 47716 (they are tax exempt, so you’ll get a 503C form back) and don’t forget to mention that it’s for me.

All Paws Rescue, This is where our dogs and cats have all come from. They do great work and have been hit really hard with the economy going to crap. Click on the gold paypal link to Give’em some love.

Thanks!

Something you can’t take away.

Posted under Rants and Raves

We’re keeping this one short and sweet.

Your heart has never broken like it will when you can’t take a pain away from your child.   When there’s nothing you can do to make the pain go away, but nothing you wouldn’t do if you could.  It’s those moments when you gain enormous clarity into what it means to say “it’s not fair”. To feel those words in every inch of your flesh, cascading through your veins like uprooted trees in a raging flood. It’s impotence and fury and love and hate and every far point on emotions compass.  And it’s life. And it’s not fair. And it’s one of the three greatest gifts you can ever give your child.

Life, Love and Pride.
